An adaptive reuse vision that sensitively renews place, enriches community, and celebrates sustainable living.
Overview

Serotine—meaning ‘late in flowering or developing’—is Studio Artegra’s considered response to the 2023 Living Building Challenge hosted by Development Victoria and the Living Future Institute of Australia. Designed for an adaptive reuse project within the vibrant LUMA community in Sunshine North, Serotine carefully transforms a heritage-listed Brutalist structure into a dynamic, community-focused hub grounded in ecological and cultural sensitivity.

Deeply rooted in the traditions and lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong peoples, Serotine encapsulates the Living Building Challenge's core principles across Place, Water, Energy, Health and Happiness, Materials, Equity, and Beauty. Artegra’s holistic approach integrates sensitive landscaping featuring edible indigenous species, elegant signage, thoughtful wayfinding, calming interior styling, and cohesive brand identity elements—each contributing to a multisensory experience designed to uplift and inspire.

Studio Artegra delivered a meticulous visualisation package including animations, evocative look development imagery, and comprehensive interior and exterior styling. This deliberate blend of creativity and practicality ensures Serotine not only embodies sustainable ideals but also meaningfully contributes to the well-being and connectivity of its community—transforming a once-imposing architectural relic into a nurturing and regenerative space.
